THE FORGING PROCESS

The forging process encompasses various subtypes, meaning the precise steps to produce a product can differ. Nevertheless, most procedures adhere to a similar framework.

  • Forging critically depends on dies to compress and sculpt metal, making it imperative to select the most effective tools for the desired outcome. Often, custom die design is essential to ensure the finished product meets exact specifications. In expansive production runs, this phase may involve creating multiple dies for flattening, shaping, or cutting.
  • With planning and toolmaking complete, the metalworking phase commences. Initially, the billet, or workpiece, is cut to the requisite size. Post-cutting, it undergoes heating to an appropriate temperature, rendering it ready for forming.
